The case involving Ilaria Salis, a key defendant in a series of ANTIFA attacks in Budapest, continues to unfold as the Budapest Metropolitan Court requested the European Parliament to waive her immunity in October, reports Index.

As Hungary Today reported, the case centers on violent assaults in February 2023, where now MEP Ilaria Salis and her associates allegedly attacked multiple victims across the city. While the court proceedings have been suspended for her, the case is still under legal review.

The request for waiver of immunity, made by Judge József Sós, was submitted to EP President Roberta Metsola.

A committee will decide whether the immunity will be lifted, though it is unlikely that a vote will take place this year.

This move comes after the court heard that Tobias E., another defendant who admitted to the crimes, was subject to a European Arrest Warrant from Germany for his role in a criminal organization. The court proceedings continue despite some legal hurdles.

The evidence presented at court, including camera footage, played a crucial role in identifying the suspects. Tobias E.’s defense lawyer criticized the identification method, noting that the prosecution had previously dismissed suspects based on clothing mismatches.

Tobias E. was arrested on a warrant and agreed to surrender to German authorities.

His extradition is linked to the expiration of his current sentence in Hungary.

The attacks occurred in early 2023, consisting of multiple assaults, including three Polish citizens in Budapest, leading to serious injuries. Tobias E. was sentenced to one year and ten months for his participation, with other suspects, including Ilaria Salis, still involved in ongoing trials.

The trial of Salis and others remains a complex case involving immunity issues, legal defense tactics, and extradition proceedings, with further developments expected in the coming months.
