Music Marathon to Celebrate 340th Anniversary of Händel’s Birth

MTI-Hungary Today 2024.12.09.

Müpa Budapest (Palace of Arts) will host a full-day celebration of the music of Georg Friedrich Händel on February 2, 2025, marking the 340th anniversary of the composer’s birth.

The Music Marathon will feature an exciting variety of performances, exhibitions, and screenings, offering visitors a chance to experience the brilliance of one of Baroque music’s greatest figures.

The 2025 event will differ from previous editions by not being organized with the Budapest Festival Orchestra. Instead, the marathon will offer a diverse program with performances by multiple early music ensembles, such as the Savaria Baroque Orchestra, the Budapest Bach Consort, and the Anima Musicae Chamber Orchestra.

Händel’s masterpieces, alongside some of his less frequently performed works, will be showcased throughout the day.

Notable performances will also feature soloists like Kristóf Baráti (violinist), Miklós Spányi (organist), Franko Klisović (singer), and chamber ensembles like the Camerata Pelsonore and the Budapest Strings. The program will range from well-known favorites to hidden gems of the composer’s expansive oeuvre.

The additional events aim to provide a comprehensive view of Handel’s influence on music history.

The all-day long concert series promises to be a memorable celebration of Händel’s enduring legacy, with various activities enriching the experience for both longtime connoisseurs and new listeners. For more details, the full program is available on Müpa’s website.
